Lead article Ovidiu Simonca writes that as part of The Observer’s on-going participation in Romanian cultural events, the Observer’s editorial team assisted at The Meeting of the Arts at the National College „Gheorghe Vranceanu” in Bacau on April 21st as well as at Book Day at the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest on April 23rd. The arts meeting had to do with saving Bacau’s historic buildings. The Cervantes presentation included readings from selected texts chosen from the titles nominated for the Observer Awards this past March. Politics Since Parliament voted for President Traian Basescu’s suspension, political events have generated a national crisis. This week’s Observer publishes a series of articles for and against the suspension. They are signed by Ovidiu Simonca, Sabina Fati, Ciprian Ciucu, Doina Ioanid, Caius Dobrescu, Doina Jela, Claudia V. Sosa. The event of the week Ruxandra Ana presents the International Day of the Book and Author’s Rights at the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest, on 23rd April. Debate Nicolas Sarkozy and Ségolène Royal run for the Presidency in the final round of French elections.
